|Breast Friends - Support the Initiative.|
Today we're doing our bit for Breast Cancer by filling you in on what we believe is a double whammy of a fabulous concept in aid of 'raising awareness and funds in support of breast cancer' in South Africa. The first initiative is the life-saving 'Mobile Breast Check Unit', a mobile breast cancer screening unit that travels around our rural areas educating women about the importance of breast self-examination and early detection of breast cancer, further increasing access to life saving information among rural women. OF COURSE, for this Mobile Breast Check Unit to be able to spread the word, it needs funding, this is where the inspirational Design For Life campaign comes in:Design for Life is a breast cancer campaign using fashion to raise awareness of the disease affecting a majority of women worldwide. This campaign is spearheaded by Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe, the chairperson of AFI and director of the Motsepe Foundation. The Design for Life campaign uses fashion in the form of gorgeous limited edition T-shirts designed by one of South Africa’s most-loved designers, Hip-Hop, to raise awareness of this deadly disease...
The T-shirts will be sold nationally through top retail store Woolworths and the funds raised from the sales will be used to fund a mobile screening unit that will further increase access to life saving information on breast cancer prevention among rural women. You can also buy the t-shirts online .
You can pop over to the Her2 site to read more about the 'Breast Friends' campaign, the mobile unit and also to contribute to this initiative, or read a bit more below: The mobile screening unit will travel on a rota basis through rural communities, offering lifesaving information and teaching breast self-examination skills to women. Access to this crucial information will allow those affected to seek medical treatment before the disease has progressed too far, radically increasing their chances of survival. The unit will expand in future to include a mobile mammography service, allowing rural women access to the latest medical mammography technology, and further increasing chances of survival.
