So apparently the beloved Polaroid camera and film as we know them, are on their way out... according to megafan website, SavePolaroid, the company announced in February this year that it will discontinue production of all Polaroid instant film. SavePolaroid is doing whatever they can to find a new owner to continue producing the film and keep the legacy going. Inspired by this 'potential death' of polaroid, two arts graduates in the states kicked off their own Polaroid project entitled "Before I die I want to..." The duo take photo's of people using their polaroid and then ask them to write a promise to themselves about something they'd like to do before they die. The  images are then posted on their site "Before I die I want to..." for everyone to enjoy... and bear witness to!

Besides the Polaroid connection, the project also explores the psychologocial notion of 'safety contracts', the promise made by suicidal people to wait for help to arrive: "By asking people to state out loud/write down something they want to do before they die and to be aware we will be checking up on them in a number of years, we believe that this will add significantly to their motivation to accomplish their goal. The added fact that the photos and statements will be published online and in print will urge people to fulfill their desires." In addition to this, the pair hope to "urge people towards thinking about and fulfilling their life goals by asking them to make a promise to themselves and to the photographer." Nice project. As we always say in our own cliched way (but take note, we practice it too!!!), this is not a rehearsal, so make the most of every moment, follow your hearts desires and do NOT be scared to follow your dreams....
